If you wish to point a domain address that you have to a different domain or subdomain, a good way to do this would be to use a CNAME record. By creating such a record, the domain name being forwarded loses all its records (A, MX, etc) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain address it is forwarded to. By doing this, if you are using a web design service by some provider that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain and not only will it be redirected to the website that you have created, but it'll also be displayed in the web browser address bar at all times. Some other possible uses of a CNAME record are to point all of the traffic from different subdomains to their main domain address, or to use the webmail service of your webhosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for instance. The latter will work only by creating a CNAME record for a subdomain because this type of a record created for the main domain renders it impossible to use e-mail addresses.

CNAME Records in Web Hosting

Setting up a CNAME record with our Linux web hosting is quite simple. Our in-house built Hepsia CP has a section committed to the DNS records of your domains, so you can set up a new CNAME record for any domain or subdomain hosted inside your account in a couple of simple steps. You can find a video tutorial in the same section in which you can see the process first-hand. This feature provides you with a number of opportunities - if you build a company site on our end, for instance, the workers can use their emails with the company domain address, not with the address of our mail server. If you want to set up an Internet site through a different company which offers online web design services, you can easily redirect a domain hosted here and use it for the website. Last, but not least, in case you have an online store and you have a billing system for http://your-domain.com and/or an SSL certificate, you may create a CNAME record for the www subdomain and redirect it to the main domain name, so all your customers will be forwarded to a secure URL.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

You are going to be able to create, edit and delete CNAME records easily with any of our semi-dedicated server plans. The accounts are controlled via the custom Hepsia hosting CP, and in one of its sections you'll see all records for any domain address or subdomain that you have added in your account. To create a new record, you just have to select the hostname that'll be forwarded (domain/subdomain), enter where it is going to be forwarded to, pick the record type, that'll be CNAME in this case, and you will be ready. Even when you have never used a web hosting service before, our Control Panel is extremely intuitive to use, so you will not have any difficulties. We also have a short video and an in-depth help article regarding how to set up a CNAME record, both of which are available in the exact same section of Hepsia. With this function, you can easily use a domain address hosted on our innovative cloud hosting platform for a website created someplace else, set up a custom webmail login address with any of your domains, plus much more.
